Solano Scoutreach – antibullying education

Throughout March Solano County Sheriffs and Fairfield Police Department are visiting Cub Scouts at five Fairfield/Suisun Elementary Afterschool Cub Scout programs to provide antibullying education. The schools include Suisun Valley, Fairview, Cleo Gordon, Dan O Root and Anna Kyle elementary.
Officers reviewed the three main types of bullying—verbal, cyber and physical—and what
children can do if they experience or witness bullying. Further, they answered the children’s
questions about different types of law enforcement, how to get a job in law enforcement and
the many interesting strategies and tools deployed by officers, such as drones, to help serve
the community.
Students embraced the topic of bullying, many sharing their own stories of being bullied, and
were eager to learn what they could do to protect themself or their friends. Many scouts rated
this experience as “the best day ever!”
This experience is one of many provided by Solano’s Scoutreach afterschool Cub Scout
program. Scouting enriches communities across a broad spectrum of socioeconomic factors,
preparing youth to make moral and ethical choices throughout their lifetime. Solano
Scoutreach brings Cub Scouting to local elementary schools as an afterschool program
serving mostly underserved communities. The Solano Scoutreach program is chartered by the
Charles Wood Family Foundation.
