Rules & Best Practices - 2025

Do not enter any home or residential building.

Collect only from homes with a door that opens to the street. No apartments or condo complexes without prior permission from manager or association.

Promote Monetary Donation option (see QR Code/link on SFF Door Hanger/Flyer).

Remember to record & report service hours.

Talk it up!  Build excitement!  Use local newsletters, newspapers, community websites, & personal social media.

If a house has a “No Solicitation” sign, skip that house

Door hangers go on doors, not in mailboxes.  If no suitable doorknob is available, place door hanger partially under doormat..

If fenced for animal control, don’t enter.  Put door hanger on gate handle or skip.

Alert scouts that they may be given donations while placing door hangers.  They should accept the donation and give them to adult leaders to turn in at collection site on November 15.

All food and cash/check donations should be delivered to a designated  drop-off site during applicable hours as shown on drop-off site list

Camping wagons make food collection much easier!

Knocking on doors of those who didn’t leave a donation is optional, up to the group/unit leader.

Be sure scouts and adult leaders are aware donors may make monetary donations and that each collection crew has  copies of SFF Door Hanger/Flyer with donation link/QR Code to share if asked. Cash/check donations are also OK; should be given to unit leader. (Checks should be payable to the applicable Food Bank.)

Last year, our Scouts helped to collect more than 297,000 pounds of food!

Through the commitment and teamwork of thousands of Scouts, adult volunteers, and community partners, this initiative continues to make a significant impact in the fight against hunger across our region. The collected food will help feed thousands of individuals and families facing food insecurity during the holiday season and beyond.

Last year’s outstanding results reflect the Scouting movement’s core values of service, leadership, and civic responsibility. The Golden Gate Area Council remains committed to growing this tradition and further strengthening our communities through acts of kindness and generosity.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participating Scouts, leaders, families, and partner organizations for helping make the 2025 Scouting for Food Drive a remarkable success. Together, we continue to embody the Scout Oath and Law by helping those in need and making a lasting difference.
