Rancho Los Mochos - Fund the Need

Our Goal: $250,000

To make these essential upgrades a reality, we are launching a dedicated Fund the Need campaign with a goal of $250,000.
And thanks to a longtime friend and supporter of Los Mochos, the first $50,000 raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar—doubling the impact of every early gift.

Join Us in Strengthening Rancho Los Mochos

Together, we can ensure that this extraordinary camp remains strong, safe, and ready for the next generation of adventurers.

Why Your Support Matters

Fund the need - Preserving the Legacy of Rancho Los Mochos

For more than eight decades, Rancho Los Mochos has stood as one of Scouting’s treasured wilderness outposts—a place where generations of youth have learned leadership, built lifelong friendships, and experienced the transformative power of the outdoors.

The story of Los Mochos began in 1944, when the Automotive Machinists Union generously donated 686 acres of pristine land to the Oakland Area Council. Dedicated officially in 1953, the camp’s history stretches back even further—its valleys and ridges were once traveled by Indigenous tribes and later visited by Jesuit explorers before becoming railroad land.

Over the years, through community support and Scouting spirit, Los Mochos grew into a full-fledged camp with roads, a water system, a swimming pool, rifle range, and rustic buildings that have served tens of thousands of Scouts.

Today, Golden Gate Area Council – Scouting America proudly owns and stewards this historic treasure. But time and weather have taken their toll, and three of our primary buildings are now in urgent need of modernization. To continue offering safe, inspiring, and memorable outdoor adventures, we must replace siding, windows, and doors—critical improvements that will protect the structures, enhance energy efficiency, and ensure the camp remains usable year-round.

On behalf of the Golden Gate Area Council, thank you for making a difference for our youth and supporting the Ranch Los Mochos Buildings Project. We are excited to complete this effort and open the new cabins for Scouts to enjoy.
